BRUSSELS - Belgian chemicals and pharmaceuticals group Solvay said yesterday it was part of a consortium building the worlds first industrial plant to mechanically recycle polyvinyl chloride (PVC).
Based in Ferrara, Italy, the plant will be operational by mid-2001 and have a production capacity of 8,500 tonnes of recycled PVC, Solvay said in a statement.
The consortium - made up of Solvin Italia, a subsidiary of Solavy and BASF , Solvay subsidiary Adriaplast, and of PVC producers and cable recyclers Fitt SpA, Technometal and Vulcaflex - is investing a total of 8.5 million euros.
