Wild Edens

The Wilderness: An Endangered Landscape? As humanity's footprint on planet Earth grows with each passing year, so too does the risk of wild, beautiful landscapes like this one disappearing from our planet. That's why a unique project, Wild Edens, which is brought to you by Rosatom and will be broadcast by National Geographic, will provide an insight into some of the world's harshest and most remote climes. Our film crew spent months meticulously observing the behaviors of the world's rarest and most endangered species struggling to adapt to a changing environment. This is their story. What is Wild Edens? Wild Edens is an ambitious project aimed at increasing public awareness of the environment, global warming, climate change and the threat it poses to the global ecosystem. Climate change may lead to the total disappearance of a number of species. The first Wild Edens film will center on flora and fauna in the unique natural habitats of Russia. The documentary was filmed in a number of rugged and remote locations, including the Altai Mountains, the Kamchatka Peninsula, and the Arctic. The documentary will be broadcast on the National Geographic channel. As we guide you along a journey of discovering the history of our planet, your companions along the way will be our three mascots: the extinct dodo bird, the nearly extinct Amur leopard and the currently abundant boreal owl. Each one of these creatures represents an aspect of the story we're trying to tell. The dodo represents the past: interaction with humans and their activities caused this endearing, but ultimately fragile creature to go extinct. The Amur leopard is - fortunately - still around, but its numbers troughed at a record low of 19 in Russia's Far East before serious efforts were undertaken to bring that figure up. This represents our currently precarious situation as a planet. Finally, the boreal owl, abundant, soaring and beautiful, represents where we can go if we make the right decisions before it's too late. Safe travels!
